OTRC: Mary J. Blige sued for defaulting on a $2.2 million bank loan

Mary J. Blige talks to OnTheRedCarpet.com about 'Rock of Ages,' which hits theaters on June 15, 2012.

Mary J. Blige and her husband Martin Isaacs have been sued by Signature Bank for reportedly defaulting on a $2.2 million bank loan.

The documents were filed on Wednesday, November 28, in New York State Supreme Court in Manhattan, according to Reuters, and the bank is seeking to regain the loan with $58,000 extra in interest.

The 41-year-old singer and her husband took out the loan in October 2011 and, according to the Reuters report, defaulted on the loan in July 2012. Blige has not commented on the lawsuit, which names also the signer's production company Mary Jane Productions Inc.

The wire service also notes that Blige, her "Family Affair" charity and Steve Stoute Foundation for the Advancement of Women Now Inc. was accused earlier this year of mishandling funds.

Blige rose to fame with her 1992 debut album, "What's the 411?" and has since sold more than 50 million albums worldwide. She has earned eight multi-platinum albums, nine Grammy Awards and four American Music Awards.

The signer recently starred in "Rock of Ages" and is set to star alongside Angela Bassett in the Lifetime double biopic "Betty & Coretta." Blige plays Betty Shabazz, the wife of Malcolm X, while Bassett plays Coretta Scott King, the wife of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
