The members of Emblem3, the Southern California boy band heating up the second season of FOX's "X Factor" say there's one particular contestant who appears to be the one to beat -- Carly Rose Sonenclar, 13.
Sonenclar, whose show mentor is pop star Britney Spears, this week wowed the judges of the singing contest series and audiences with a performance of Adele's "Rolling In The Deep" and has ranked No. 1 two weeks in a row.
When asked after a taping of Wednesday's performances who is among Emblem3's fiercest competition," singer Drew Chadwick, 20, told OTRC.com: "This is kind of a paradox but in terms of ferocity, I would say Carly Rose Sonenclar, even though she is so gentle and sweet. That is her fierceness, her subtlety."
On Wednesday's show, Emblem3, which also includes singers Wesley Stromberg, 18, and his brother Keaton Stromberg, 16, sang "I'm a Believer," a pop tune made famous by the boy band The Monkees in the 1960s, but more known to younger audiences as a Smash Mouth song that is part of the soundtrack of the movie "Shrek."
Simon Cowell, the group's mentor, said Emblem3 turned into "real pop stars" and that the performance was one of his favorites, while judge and music mogul L.A. Reid said he would sign the group. Spears said she didn't like the song and fourth judge Demi Lovato said the performance was "predictable" but that people would like the group because the boys are "good looking" and "young."
Emblem3 moved up one stop to rank No. 3 on Thursday's episode, which saw the elimination of contestants Paige Thomas and Vino Alan, leaving six finalists.
Sonenclar, a New York resident who starred in the Broadway musical "Les Miserables" at age 7, told OTRC.com earlier this month that she relates to Spears, her mentor, because she too began her music career when she was young. Sonenclar also said her friends back home are "super jealous" but excited for her.
