Dennis Quaid reportedly filed for divorce from his third wife, Kimberly Buffington-Quaid, over a month after she filed for legal separation.
The divorce papers were filed in LA Superior Court on Friday, November 30, according to E! News. Quaid cited irreconcilable differences in his filing and is seeking joint legal and physical custody of the couple's 5-year-old twins, the outlet reports.
Quaid lists the date of separation as October 1 and expressed he is willing to pay spousal support. When Buffington-Quaid filed for legal separation in October, she also sought joint legal custody but requested sole physical custody of the children.
Buffington-Quaid, a former real-estate agent from Texas and Quaid's wife of eight years, initially filed for divorce in March, claiming the relationship had "become insupportable because of discord or conflict of personalities."
She then withdrew the filing in May, reportedly intending to "keep working" on their marriage.
"Kimberly and Dennis Quaid have decided to legally separate after eight years of marriage. They ask that their privacy and the privacy of their family be respected during this difficult time. No further statement will be given," a spokesperson for the actor told OTRC.com in a statement on October 19, after Buffington-Quaid filed for legal separation.
Quaid and his wife married in July of 2004. The pair welcomed their twins via a surrogate in 2007. The babies were put in intensive care after suffering an accidental overdose of the blood-thinner Heparin. Quaid later sued its manufacturer. The case made international headlines.
Quaid was previously married to actress P.J. Soles for five years, starting in 1978. He and Meg Ryan were married for 10 years, beginning in 1991, and have a 19-year-old son, Jack, who appeared in "The Hunger Games."
The 58-year-old actor currently stars on the CBS period drama series "Vegas" as Sheriff Ralph Lamb. The series also stars "The Matrix" actress Carrie-Anne Moss, "The Shield" actor Michael Chiklis and "Life on Mars" actor Jason O'Mara. Quaid also serves as an executive producer on the show.
