OTRC: Taran Noah Smith of 'Home Improvement' pleads guilty to drug possession, DUI charge dismissed

Taran Noah Smith of "Home Improvement" fame recently pled guilty to a drug possession charge and no contest to a wet reckless charge.

The actor, who portrayed Mark Taylor on the 90s sitcom "Home Improvement" with Tim Allen, was arrested on February 1 and was later charged with driving under the influence and possession of a concentrated form of cannabis, otherwise known as hash.

Smith was sentenced in Burbank City Court recently and the actor plead no contest to a wet reckless charge and the DUI charge was dismissed. The 27-year-old was sentenced to take 12 hour classes, pay a fine of over $1,000 and three years probation for that charge, OTRC.com has learned.

He also pled guilty to the drug possession charge and is entering a deferred judgment program which requires the guilty plea. The program is 18 months long and if Smith meets all the requirements within the 18 months, the charge will be dismissed.

Smith hasn't appeared on screen since the show went off the air in 1999. That same year, he lent his voice to a character in an episode of the animated series "Batman Beyond." In 2001, Smith sued his parents for fraud and claimed they were using his trust fund money, according to People magazine.

In 2001, he also married 32-year-old Heidi Van Pelt. Smith was 17 year old at the time of the marriage. The couple began a vegan business together before divorcing in 2007.

In September 2011, Smith reunited with his "Home Improvement" co-stars, including Jonathan Taylor Thomas, for a photo shoot for Entertainment Weekly. The former cast members, sans Thomas, had previously reunited at the TV Land Awards.
