OTRC: Justin Bieber sitcom reportedly in development

Are television audiences ready for a sitcom inspired by Justin Bieber's life?

A show based on the 18-year-old singing sensation's home life is reportedly in development at ABC, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The industry site reports the single-camera comedy has "landed a script commitment from the network." The project was first in development during 2011 as a multi-camera project. Examples of single-camera comedies include "Arrested Development," "Modern Family" and "The Office."

ABC had no immediate comment when asked by OTRC.com to confirm the report. The Walt Disney Company is the parent company of both ABC and OTRC.com.

The Hollywood Reporter describes the untitled show as a family series about a musical prodigy that is inspired by Bieber's life before he was famous, when the singer was being raised by a single mother and her parents. The news was first reported by TV Guide. Bieber and his manager, Scooter Braun, would executive produce the series.

Bieber recently confirmed during an appearance on the "Ellen DeGeneres Show" that he is working on an acoustic version of his recent album "Believe." According to MTV News, a spokesperson for Bieber said the album will be titled "Believe Acoustic" and will be released on January 29.

On Wednesday, it was revealed that the pop star was the target of a murder plot. Dana Martin, a 45-year-old inmate at the Southern New Mexico Corrections Facility, is accused of targeting the singer in a gruesome plan that involved castrating then murdering Bieber. The felon reportedly attempted to contact the singer, and when no response was received, masterminded a plan to kill him, according to ABC News, which carried the report.
