Jenna von Oy, an actress and singer likely best known for her role as Six LeMeure on "Blossom," is a Newtown, Connecticut native and recently wrote an essay on her hometown and the Sandy Hook Elementary school shooting that took place on Friday, December 14.
The 35-year-old wrote in People magazine that she graduated from Newtown High School. She married to Brad Bratcher in the town two years ago. Her 6-month old daughter, Gray Audrey, was christened at St. Rose of Lima Church, where a vigil for the victims was held on the evening of December 14. The actress and singer also said she still has family that lives in Newtown.
"Newtown is the foundation of my history and it holds a very special place in my heart," von Oy wrote.
"It is nearly impossible to unscramble my thoughts and put them to paper at a time like this, but I wanted to express my love and support for the town that has given me so many wonderful memories," she added.
Officials say the suspected gunman Adam Lanza forced his way into Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown and shot and killed 20 children and six adults. Authorities later discovered that Lanza, who took his own life after the shooting, also shot and killed his mother in their home.
"I grieve for the parents who lost their beautiful, innocent babies; some of them were friends from high school. My heart hurts for the families who have to explain this loss to the frightened children they brought home," von Oy wrote.
She later added, "I know, with absolute certainty, the residents of Newtown will rise up with love and strength in the face of their suffering. When you think of my hometown, I hope you'll think beyond this moment in its history. "
Since her role on "Blossom," von Oy has appeared on "The Parkers," "Cold Case" and has lent her voice to "Family Guy" and "Pepper Ann." In 2007, she released her debut album called "Breathing Room."
Olympic gold medalist and "Keeping Up With The Kardashians" star Bruce Jenner also has a personal connection to Newtown. Like von Oy, he attended Newtown High School.
"Not in a million years would you ever think that this quiet little town would have such a terrible, terrible tragedy happen there," he said in a statement to E! News. "You just can't believe it."
