Man arrested for bomb scare near Jewish temple

LOS ANGELES

The LAPD bomb squad responded to two calls about a suspicious package in a police car parked outside the Wilshire Boulevard Temple on Harvard Boulevard between Wilshire Boulevard and Sixth Street on Tuesday. The calls were believed to be made by an unidentified male on a pay phone just before 8 a.m.

It took hours of safety checks to make sure the police car was safe. No device was found when the investigation finally ended around 2 p.m.

Wan Ryung Song, 46, was taken into custody and booked at the Metropolitan Detention Center. Police say Song had also been involved in vandalism at the temple that depicted a swastika and corresponding anti-Semitic rant on Dec. 6.

Song is expected to appear in court for arraignment on Thursday.

Anyone with information is urged to call (877) LAPD-24-7.
