1st flu death of the season reported in OC

SANTA ANA, Calif.

The Orange County Health Agency confirmed a 51-year-old man from Fountain Valley died last week from influenza B-related disease. No other details were released.

According to health officials, the flu vaccine is the first and most important step in protecting against flu viruses. The county advises everyone over the age of six to get vaccinated.

Health officials particularly urge pregnant women, children under five, adults over 50, people with chronic medical conditions and people in nursing homes to get vaccinated.

The most common symptoms of influenza are fever, cough, and sore throat.
