Robin Roberts was recently reunited with her beloved Jack Russell terrier, KJ, as she celebrated a milestone of marking 100 days of recovery following her bone marrow transplant.
The 52-year-old began her medical leave from "Good Morning America," the ABC show she co-anchors, late last summer and underwent the procedure in September to treat myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), a rare blood disorder. She has also been through chemotherapy. She was released from a New York hospital in November.
"Look who made it back for my 100 day celebration...KJ!!" Roberts said on Twitter on December 29, alongside a photo of her with her dog. "We just keep staring at each..can't believe she's finally home."
She then posted a second picture, Tweeting: "Couldn't resist sharing one more photo....KJ already feeling right at home. So happy to have the lil girl back."
Her doctor had told her that 100 days after her surgery, she would begin to feel better, get off some medication and start "liking to eat again" as her immune system strengthens. (Check out 9 facts about Robin Roberts, her MDS and bone marrow transplant.)
Roberts had sent KJ to Maine to stay with friends before she began her medical leave.
"Met in Portsmouth, NH, tonite to hand her off. Cried like a baby," she Tweeted on August 25.
On December 25, Christmas Day, Roberts posted a picture of her pet sitting on a dog bed with a stuffed moose in a Santa hat.
"My sweet KJ sending Merry Christmas wishes from Maine," she Tweeted. "She'll be back home with me VERY soon!"
On December 29, Roberts also shared with her followers a photo of herself wearing a Santa hat and holding a calendar showing the month of December with the days marked off until the 29th.
"Every morning I mark the day post my bone marrow transplant. Today I reached a major milestone...Day 100! Blessings..XO," she Tweeted.
In the picture, Roberts is also wearing pajamas decorated with "Angry Birds," the characters from a popular videogame. After a Twitter fan complimented her on her outfit, she Tweeted: "Thanks, played a LOT of Angry Birds last 100 days. :-)"
Roberts' medical leave is expected to continue for several more months. She did make a prominent public appearance on December 21 -- she attended the wedding of "Good Morning America" weather anchor Sam Champion. He and boyfriend Rubem Robierb exchanged vows at his Manhattan apartment. ABC released a photo of the happy couple with Roberts and their colleagues Lara Spencer and Josh Elliot.
The wedding ceremony lasted 10 minutes and that Roberts recited a poem by Elizabeth Barrett Browning. Champion and Robierb exchanged vows again at a belated wedding reception in Miami on New Year's Eve.
