Winds ignite small fires in Santa Paula

SANTA PAULA, Calif.

The powerful winds are being blamed for knocking down lines that ignited the fires. The downed power lines left nearly 2,700 Southern California Edison customers without electricity for much of the morning.

"The power went out completely as soon as the transformers started blowing up," said Henry Galvan of Santa Paula.

The brush fire was initially reported around 3:30 a.m. in the 17900 block of South Mountain Road and covered about three acres before extending to two houses on Mariposa Drive. The flames were knocked down in about an hour.
