OTRC: 'The Impossible,' 'Promised Land' reviewed by Mr. Moviefone

Naomi Watts appears in a scene from the 2013 film 'The Impossible.' (Summit Entertainment, LLC.)

This week, Leatherface wants to chainsaw your forehead Texas-style, fracking could ruin a small town, and an incredible true story about survival is "The Impossible."

A couple and their three young sons are vacationing in Thailand when the 2004 tsunami hits. Separated and fighting for their lives along with thousands of other survivors, the family is on a desperate mission to find each other, hopefully alive. Starring are Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor.

The Reel Deal: It's a harrowing journey no doubt, but it's an amazingly well-done real-life disaster flick with terrific performances, so in the end, you'll believe in "The Impossible." I'm in.

It's big energy versus a small town in "Promised Land."

Matt Damon and Frances McDormand hope to convince a small town crippled by the economic crisis to back a plan to drill for natural gas using the process known as fracking. What they thought would be an easy job turns out to be the hardest sell of their lives.

The Reel Deal: Look, I don't know how many people want to spend $12 on a low-key environmental movie, but it's good. The cast is great, I learned a little something, so what the frack. I'm in.

Also in theaters, Leatherface is alive in "Texas Chainsaw 3D," a sort-of sequel to the classic thriller. No advanced screening, so it's likely the first needless remake of the year. Congratulations.
