The letters were returned just in time for a huge milestone in Lloyd and Marion Michael's lives.
In the late 1960s, a trunk containing the letters was stolen from their ranch. The letters eventually ended up in the hands of a stamp collector who died. It was the stamp collector's son who went in search of the letters' rightful owners and tracked down Lloyd Michael through his military service number.
"He says, 'I have something of yours. I've got a box of letters and I'd like to get them to you,'" Michael said. "It's very emotional for us."
The couple was 19 and 18 years old when they married. Lloyd Michael was serving in the military during World War II and the couple wrote as often as they could. She eagerly awaited the mail as confirmation that her husband had lived to see another day.
"It just brings back all those memories and the tension and not knowing," Marion Michael said.
The couple recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. They have four children, eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
