OTRC: Golden Globes: Jennifer Lawrence of 'Silver Linings Playbook' wins Comedy Film Actress

Jennifer Lawrence has won the 2013 Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Comedy Or Musical for her role in "Silver Linings Playbook" marking her first win and second nomination.

The winners were announced at a ceremony in Los Angeles on January 13. Lawrence beat Judi Dench of "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel," Emily Blunt of "Salmon Fishing in the Yemen" Maggie Smith of "Quartet" and Meryl Streep of "Hope Springs."

"Oh what does it say? 'I beat Meryl,'" Lawrence said in her acceptance speech. "Jokes aside, I am so honored to be a part of a film like this."

She also thanked her cast members, her mother and father and her two brothers.

In "Silver Lining Playbook," Lawrence plays a widow who falls in love with her bipolar neighbor, portrayed by Bradley Cooper, who wants to reconnect with his ex-wife. She enlisted her brother's help to prepare for her role and also auditioned via Skype -- which marked the first time director David O. Russell had used the video call program to find actors for his projects.

Silver Linings Playbook' was nominated for a total of four Golden Globe Awards, including individual acting nods for Lawrence and Cooper and Best Screenplay for Russell.

Lawrence earned her first Golden Globe nomination in 2011 for her role in the movie "Winter's Bone," for which she was also nominated for her first Oscar. Cooper had never been nominated for a Golden Globe until this year.

Lawrence is also known as the star in the 'Hunger Games' film series. This year, Taylor Swift earned her first Golden Globe nomination for her contribution to the first movie's soundtrack.
