Disney has announced release dates for some of its most highly-anticipated films, including "Maleficent," "The Muppets 2" and "Pirates of the Carribbean 5."
The Disney Studio announced today that Angelina Jolie's upcoming fairy tale film, "Maleficent," has been shifted from its original release date of March 14, 2014 to the more competitive date of July 2, 2014, according to Entertainment Weekly.
With the dark, wicked film being pushed back, the studio aims to fill the slot with "The Muppets 2," which is set to premiere on March 21, 2014, according to the magazine. Ricky Gervais and Ty Burrell have both officially signed on to the puppet film.
Lastly, the fifth "Pirates of the Caribbean" film has landed an official release date, with Johnny Depp set to return as his famed character, Captain Jack Sparrow. The film, according to EW, is set for release on July 10, 2015.
Jolie's upcoming live-action film, "Maleficent," is set for release in 3D and explores the origins of Maleficent, an evil sorceress and the main villain in the 1959 Disney animated movie "Sleeping Beauty." The movie is set to tell the classic tale from the view of the horned villain.
In August 2012, it was announced that 4-year-old Vivienne Jolie-Pitt, the youngest daughter of Jolie and fiancee Brad Pitt, would make her big screen debut as the child version of Princess Aurora in the film.
