OTRC: Megan Fox discusses Marilyn Monroe, Lindsay Lohan, church and God

Megan Fox and husband Brian Austin Green appear at the 2013 Golden Globe Awards in Beverly Hills, California on Jan. 13, 2013.

Megan Fox says she is not interested in following in the footsteps of troubled but famous actresses Marilyn Monroe ... and Lindsay Lohan.

The 26-year-old actress, a former "Transformers" star who remains an international sex symbol, made her comments to Esquire magazine in a February 2013 interview. Fox once had a tattoo of Monroe, who was found dead in 1962 at age 36 after battling substance addiction for years. Her death was ruled a probable suicide, caused by an accidental overdose of sedatives. Fox started the process of having her ink removed in 2011."

"I started reading about her and realized that her life was incredibly difficult," Fox told the magazine about Monroe. "It's like when you visualize something for your future. I didn't want to visualize something so negative."

"She was sort of like Lindsay," the actress added, referring to Lohan. "She was an actress who wasn't reliable, who almost wasn't insurable ... She had all of the potential in the world, and it was squandered. I'm not interested in following in those footsteps."

Lohan, 26, has also battled substance abuse and has undergone more than five years of legal and personal turmoil. She has not responded to the actress' comments about her. Lohan has served several stints in jail and under house arrest. On Tuesday, January 15, her attorney entered a not guilty plea for an ongoing case about a summer 2012 car accident . If convicted of a crime, she could be sent back to jail.

UPDATE: After the interview was published, Megan Fox issued a statement on her Facebook page. She said the following:

"The journalist and I were discussing why I was removing my Marilyn Monroe tattoo, especially since in his opinion, Marilyn was such a powerful and iconic figure for women."

"I attempted to draw parallels between Lindsay and Marilyn in order to illustrate my point that while Marilyn may be an icon now, sadly she was not respected and taken seriously while she was still living. Both women were gifted actresses, whose natural talent was lost amongst the chaos and incessant media scrutiny surrounding their lifestyles and their difficulties adhering to studio schedules etc."

"I intended for this to be a factual comparison of two women with similar experiences in Hollywood. Unfortunately it turned into me offering up what is really much more of an uneducated opinion. It was most definitely not my intention to criticize or degrade Lindsay."

"I would never want her to feel bullied, as she does not deserve that. I was not always speaking eloquently during this interview and this miscommunication is my fault."

"I can't stand pills"

Fox, who welcomed a child with husband Brian Austin Green in September 2012, also added in her Esquire interview: "I can't stand pills. I don't like drinking. I don't like feeling out of control. I have to feel like I'm in control of my body."

Fox, who was raised as a Pentecostal Christian in Tennessee, says she personally feels "safe" in church, adding that she can speak in tongues.

"It feels like a lot of energy coming through the top of your head -- I'm going to sound like such a lunatic -- and then your whole body is filled with this electric current," the actress told the magazine. "And you just start speaking, but you're not thinking because you have no idea what you're saying. Words are coming out of your mouth, and you can't control it. The idea is that it's a language that only God understands. It's the language that's spoken in heaven. It's called 'getting the Holy Ghost.'"
