Howser probably would have loved the group sing-along of "California, Here I Come."
Los Angeles City Councilman Tom LaBonge, who hosted the event, called Howser a "California landmark."
Howser was best known for his show "California's Gold," where he profiled the interesting, quirky and fascinating people and places of our state for decades.
He retired just last November from his role at KCET. The broadcaster donated all episodes of his series to Chapman University, as well as all his research material and memorabilia, saying, "I'm proud to have a permanent home for my life's work. I hope it will be used by students and the public to learn about, and understand, California even better."
The Tennessee native died last Monday at his Palm Springs home. He was 67 years old.
