This week at the movies, a city is broken, there's a new sheriff in town, and she may be dead, but she's far from gone. She's "Mama."
Two girls are found alone in the forest five years after their parents were killed. Their uncle and his girlfriend (played by Jessica Chastain) take the wild pair in only to realize that something evil has followed the sisters.
The Reel Deal: Look, there's somethin creepy about creepy kids and these kids are super creepy. Add in the requisite jumps and starts and you might just be cryin' for yo mama. I'm in.
Things aren't exactly what they seem in "Broken City."
Mark Wahlberg is a disgraced ex-cop hired by the mayor of New York City (played by Russell Crowe) to expose his wife's affair. But the more he uncovers, the more his life depends on exposing the truth. Also starring Catherine Zeta-Jones.
The Reel Deal: With Whalberg and Crowe it should be a slam dunk, but with Crowe's bad Brooklyn accent and a marginal story, "Broken City" isn't entirely broken, but it could use some fixin. I'm out.
It's time for the big guns in "The Last Stand."
Arnold Schwarzenegger is the sheriff of a small town on the US/Mexico border and he's the last hope of stopping an escaped drug kingpin from disappearing forever.
The Real Deal: Believe it or not, Arnold is back in this no frills, straight forward action flick that should keep genre fans happy. I'm in.
