Twitter is offering a new way to view just how much buzz the 2013 Oscar nominees are getting on the social networking site.
The company launched the Twitter Oscars Index on January 15 and the site offers users a way to track and measure conversations people are having on Twitter about the Oscar nominees. The platform illustrates the data using a several interactive line graphs. The index also uses a scale from 0 percent to 100 percent to measure positive sentiments about the nominees.
"The Twitter Oscars Index reflects the ebb and flow of the movie-related conversations throughout the awards season, showing how positively fans are commenting on nominees on Twitter," Fred Garver, Twitter's head of Television, said in a blog post introducing the feature.
The index tracks nominees in the six biggest categories including Best Picture, Best Actress, Best Actor, Best Director, Best Supporting Actress and Best Supporting Actor.
Users can also look at how news events increased or decreased the conversations people were having about the nominees. For example, "Django Unchained" experienced a surge in conversation on December 25, its release date.
"Amour" also experienced a jump on the social networking site after it won the Golden Globe award for Best Foreign Language Film.
Using the positivity index, users can see on the night of the Golden Globes on January 13, "Silver Linings Playbook" had the most positive buzz out of all the Oscar nominees with 94 percent. The percentage means that Tweets about "Silver Linings Playbook" were generally more positive than 94 percent of all Tweets on the social networking site on that day.
"Argo," which won the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture - Drama, had more positive Tweets than 89 percent of all Tweets on that day.
