Taking a page from bestie and fellow comedy actress Tina Fey, now Amy Poehler is set to become an author.

Poehler, the star of the NBC series "Parks and Recreation," has signed a deal with It Books, an imprint of publishing company HarperCollins, and HarperCollinsCanada to pen her first book, which is tentatively set for release in the fall of 2014, the parent firm said in a statement obtained by OTRC.com.

"While inspired in part by Poehler's interest in helping young women navigate the adult world, her original twist on the conventional memoir will have universal appeal," the company said. "An illustrated, non-linear diary full of humor and honesty and brimming with true stories, fictional anecdotes and life lessons, the book will be a unique and engaging experience from one of today's most talented and beloved stars."

"When I first talked to Amy about a book I was blown away by her creativity and her passion for the project. I am now so excited to be working with her and making her ideas a reality," said HarperCollins Executive Editor Carrie Thornton.

"Amy's intelligence, comedic genius, and care for her craft shines through everything she does, and I know that this book will be no exception," she said. "To have the chance to work with an artist of this caliber is every editor's great hope, and I can't wait to see how this book evolves."

Poehler, a native of Massachusetts, began her entertainment career in the early 1990s performing improv comedy in Chicago, along with Fey. She then joined the "Upright Citizens Brigade" sketch show in 1998 before moving on to NBC's "Saturday Night Live" in 2001. Fey had already been working as a writer and later began co-hosting the "Weekend Update" segment.

Fey released her first book, the memoir "Bossypants," in 2011. It hit No. 1 on the New York Times' Best Sellers list and remained on top for more than a month. As of January 29, Amazon.com ranks it No. 14 in its list of Biographies and Memoirs.

Poehler and Fey co-starred in the 2004 comedy movie "Mean Girls." Poehler played a "cool mom" of a high school queen bee and Fey, the film's co-writer, portrayed the math teacher of student Cady, played by Lindsay Lohan. Poehler and Fey also both starred in the 2008 comedy movie "Baby Mama" and earlier this month, co-hosted the 2013 Golden Globe Awards.

Since 2009, Poehler has played Leslie Knope, an ambitious local politician and aspiring president of the United States in the NBC comedy series "Parks and Recreation," which depicts the lives of the workers of a Parks and Recreation department of the city of Pawnee, Indiana The show also stars Rashida Jones, Aziz Ansari and Rob Lowe and is on its fifth season.

Poehler has also had parts in animated movies such as "Monsters vs Aliens" and the U.S. version of "The Secret World of Arrietty" and on shows such as "Undeclared" and FOX's "Arrested Development," which starred her now-estranged husband Will Arnett -- the father of her two sons.

Before she was famous, Poehler had a more unusual on-camera job. In 2011, royalty-free stock photos showing the actress posing in a candy striper outfit were found by a Tumblr blogger and went viral. Poehler talked about them in an interview on ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live!."

"In my twenties, to make money, we used to either give blood, for real," she said. "Or we would this thing in Chicago where they dress you up like someone and take your picture, you know those weird pictures that they put in when you buy a picture frame? That's the weird stuff that comes in it."

"What's such a bummer is that when other actresses get their old modeling pictures on the internet, they're really young and sexy," Poehler added. "And I look like a sociopath who's going to smother a man with a pillow. I was probably like, 28, if you ever had any doubt about my late bloomer-hood, take a look at that. I don't think I wore makeup or anything, I was just like, let's just do it!"
