OTRC: George Clooney to star in Disney film 'Tomorrowland'

George Clooney talks to OnTheRedCarpet.com in February 2012, before the Oscars.

George Clooney is set to star in an upcoming, live-action Disney film.

Walt Disney Studios has announced that its upcoming release, previously known as "1952," is now titled "Tomorrowland" and will star Oscar winning actor George Clooney.

The film, which is slated for release on December 19, 2014, will feature directors Damon Lindelof and Brad Bird at the helm. While the content of the movie is still largely unknown, Lindelof took to his official Twitter account to give curious fans one minor detail.

"We won't tell you what it's about (yet), but we will tell you what it's NOT about," Lindelof Tweeted on January 28. "And that would be ALIENS. #Tomorrowland."

Disney officials haven't said if any scenes would be filmed at Disneyland. It is also unclear whether the film will be tied to the Disneyland themed area Tomorrowland or some other aspect of the Disney parks.

Over the years, numerous films have been made from Disneyland attractions or the park's themed lands, including "Pirates of the Carribbean," "The Country Bears" and "Haunted Mansion."

On January 28, the official Disney Parks blog posted a mysterious photo which they describe as a "box full of unexplained artifacts" that they explained is the basis for the upcoming film. The site also claims that the box was found in the Imagineering archives (Photo below).

The same photo, which shows what appears to be a box filled with old photos, files, letters and Technicolor tapes, was also Tweeted by Bird on January 23, along with the caption: "The Box... opened."

Lindeloff co-created ABC's "LOST" and also worked on "Star Trek" with J.J. Abrams, who was recently tapped to direct a new series of "Star Wars" films for Disney. Bird, known for directing animated films "The Incredibles" and "Up," also worked with Abrams on the 2011 film, "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol."
