OTRC: Rihanna talks dating Chris Brown: 'Even if it's a mistake, it's my mistake'

Rihanna has confirmed in a new interview what has been speculated for months: She and Chris Brown are dating again.

The pop star spoke to Rolling Stone about the relationship for the magazine's latest issue, where she appears on the cover.

"I decided it was more important for me to be happy," she told the magazine about the relationship in the issue, which is out on Friday, January 31st. "I wasn't going to let anybody's opinion get in the way of that. Even if it's a mistake, it's my mistake. After being tormented for so many years, being angry and dark, I'd rather just live my truth and take the backlash. I can handle it."

Brown, who made headlines recently for getting into a fist fight with singer Frank Ocean outside a recording studio in West Hollywood, assaulted Rihanna after a pre-Grammys party in 2009. Brown pleaded guilty to a felony charge and he was sentenced to five years of probation, six months of community service and was ordered by the courts to receive domestic violence courses for a year.

Rumors of a possible reconciliation between Brown and Rihanna have been floating around for months, fuelled in part by their collaboration on two tracks in February 2012 and a public kiss at the MTV Video Music Awards on September 6.

The pair have also appeared in photos together on their respective Instagram accounts and in October, Brown confirmed he broke up with model Karrueche Tran. He cited his "friendship" with Rihanna as part of the reason.

"I love Karrueche very much but I don't want to see her hurt over my friendship with Rihanna. I'd rather be single allowing us to both be happy in our lives," he said in a statement obtained by OTRC.com.

Rihanna also talked to Oprah Winfrey about Brown on an episode of "Oprah's Next Chapter" that aired on the talk show host's OWN cable channel in August. At the time, the pop star said she still loved Brown and that she thought he was the love of her life.

"When you add up the pieces from the outside, it's not the cutest puzzle in the world," Rihanna told Rolling Stone about the relationship. "You see us walking somewhere, driving somewhere, in the studio, in the club, and you think you know. But it's different now. We don't have those types of arguments anymore."

"We value each other. We know exactly what we have now, and we don't want to lose that," she added.

The 24-year-old also said that Brown "doesn't have the luxury" of messing up with her again.

"That's just not an option. I can't say that nothing else will ever go wrong. But I'm pretty solid in the knowing that he's disgusted by that [the assault]," she added. "And I wouldn't have gone this far if I ever thought that was a possibility."
