Human remains found in the Angeles National Forest earlier this month have been identified as that of a missing Glendale man, investigators said Thursday.

The body of 25-year-old Nicholas Carter was found about a quarter mile from Big Tujunga Canyon Road on Jan. 19.

Carter went missing from Glendale on Jan. 7. Authorities said the cause of death appears to be blunt force trauma and they're investigating his death as a homicide.

The coroner said the body was found clothed and wrapped up. The initial search began Jan. 9. when a hiker discovered a shallow grave in the area. Human blood was found at the scene, but no remains were found that day. Investigators returned to do a more thorough search of the area and discovered Carter's body about 100 yards away from the grave.

No arrests have been made in the case. Anyone with information was asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
