OTRC: Oprah's OWN hit with lawsuit: Network reportedly sued for sex discrimination

Oprah Winfrey's OWN network has reportedly been hit with a sex descrimination lawsuit by a former employee.

Carolyn Hommel claims in the lawsuit that she lost her position at the network as a result of her taking medical leave during her pregnancy, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The suit was filed on Friday, February 1, in Los Angeles.

Hommel said she was hired as a senior director of scheduling and acquisitions at the network in 2010. She claims she received positive performance reviews and was on track to become a vice president. However, she was forced to take medical leave during her pregnancy and was replaced by a temporary employee who gradually took on her duties.

When she came back to the office, Hommel claims she was excluded from numerous meetings and in March 2012, a month after giving birth to her daughter, she was laid off. Hommel alleges she was encouraged to apply for a vice president job, but was passed over, according to the entertainment outlet.

Hommel also says in the suit that her former boss fabricated a performance review that made her duties appear less "senior." He is also named as a defendant in the suit. Hommel is seeking unspecified damages and claims that her firing was a result of her pregnancy and required medical leave.

The network has not commented on the suit, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Winfrey celebrated her 59th birthday on January 29. However, she ended up hurting her back after trying to pick up a flower arrangement sent to her by Tyler Perry for her birthday.
