Emma Watson reportedly defends Kristen Stewart in a new interview where she talks about the actress' cheating scandal.
Watson recently spoke to Vanity Fair Italy and she also appears on the magazine's recent cover. The 22-year-old actress said took issue with the way the media treated Stewart during the scandal.
"Those who criticized her are the same people that think that being rich and famous is like being covered in some kind of magic powder that makes life perfect: Nothing can go wrong in your wonderful world," Watson reportedly told Vanity Fair Italy, according to E! News. "For these people, Kristen deserves all the bad things that have been thrown at her because she had an amazing life and she ruined it."
"I thought that the media picked on her in a very horrible way. Kristen is human, just like everybody else, and she's so young," she added.
In July 2012, Stewart issued a public apology to Robert Pattinson for her "momentary indiscretion" with 41-year-old Rupert Sanders, who directed her in the film "Snow White and the Huntsman." Sanders was married at the time to model and actress Liberty Ross, who also appeared in the film playing Queen Eleanor, the mother of Stewart's titular character. Ross filed for divorce from Sanders in January.
The apology came before Us Weekly published photos of the Stewart and Sanders kissing and embracing.
"I'm deeply sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I've caused to those close to me and everyone this has affected," Stewart had said at the time. "This momentary indiscretion has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I'm so sorry."
Watson later added about the scandal, "Everyone makes mistakes, everyone. It's not fair to consider them matters of public interest."
"On one hand, I can understand why it happened: People felt really involved in her relationship with Robert Pattinson," she said. "But it's also true that they both have done everything in their power to keep their relationship as far from the public eye as possible."
The British actress, who recently appeared in "The Perks of Being a Wallflower," will have an edgier role in the upcoming film "The Bling Ring." The movie is based on the true story of a group of celebrity-obsessed teens who broke into the homes of several stars such as Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton.
Watson plays a burglar named Nicki, which is not the name of any of the real-life suspects, but is allegedly based on one of the burglars. The film is directed by Sofia Coppola. Watson said she watched a lot of Kim Kardashian's reality shows to prep for the role.
