According to authorities, an unidentified seventh grader at Twin Peaks Middle School in Poway sent an administrator a threatening email Friday.
In the document, the suspect detailed his plan to shoot students and a teacher Monday. He also made references to 3,000 rounds of ammunition and numerous firearms.
Parent Sam Butler was rattled after hearing of the boy's plan.
"Poway is such a small place, that I never thought someone would even try to do something like that in this town because this is the safest town I've ever been too," Butler said. "The fact that the school and administration shut it down so quickly and found the person is a testament to how well they work together."
Police searched the boy's home around 5:30 p.m. Saturday after learning of the threat and seized a number of rifles and handguns. The boy did not have access to the weapons. The shotguns and handguns were locked up at the time the search warrant was served.
The boy was taken into custody and then admitted to a hospital for treatment and evaluation.
