Alyson Hannigan of "How I Met Your Mother" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" fame obtained a temporary restraining order on February 13 from a New Hampshire man who, according to the actress, has threatened her and her family online.
The Associated Press reports that the man, 43-year-old John Hobbs, has to stay away from Hannigan and her family. The order also requires Hobbs to stop posting messages about the 38-year-old actress online.
Hobbs was recently released from a mental hospital, according to the court filings obtained by the wire service.
Hannigan states in her petition that Hobbs has "posted a barrage of threatening messages directed at me and my family on various websites."
"I am in severe fear for my safety and the safety of my family," she added.
Hannigan states she has never met Hobbs, but his messages have suggested he will rape her and take her to the "after-life." Police in Nashua, New Hampsire, Hobbs' hometown, contacted him and he acknowledged wanting to meet Hannigan and visit her in California.
"Hobbs seemed to be living in an alternate reality," the officer wrote after interviewing him and reviewing his Facebook account. A hearing to extend the restraining order for three years is scheduled for March 6 in Los Angeles.
Hannigan rose to fame with her role as Willow on "Buffy The Vampire Slayer." The cult series ran for seven seasons. Hannigan also has a recurring role in the "American Pie" franchise. Since 2005, Hannigan has been playing Lily Aldrin on "How I Met Your Mother.
The actress wed former "Buffy" co-star Alexis Denisof in 2003. Hannigan and Denisof are parents to two daughters, 3-year-old Satyana and 1-year-old Keeva.
