The explosion, which occurred Friday, entered the atmosphere at a speed of at least 33,000 mph, according to the Russian Academy of Sciences. The meteor caused shock waves that shattered windows and damaged more than 4,000 buildings in Chelyabinsk.
On Sunday, the Chelyabinsk city administration said that nearly 60 percent of the city's broken windows had been replaced. Russian authorities moved quickly to replace the meteor's damage as many residents were left vulnerable in well below freezing temperatures.
The blast injured 1,200 people and left 40 still hospitalized Sunday, the ITAR-Tass news agency said, citing Emergency Ministry figures. Most of the injuries were reported to be from broken glass.
NASA officials said they weren't tracking the meteor because it was reportedly too small.
