Demi Lovato gave fans a special treat on Sunday, February 24, when she debuted her new single "Heart Attack." The single's initial release date was set for March 4, but it is now available on iTunes. The song is off Lovato's upcoming 2013 album.
"Never put my love out on the line/ Never said 'yes' to the right guy," Lovato sings in the song, which can be heard below. "When I don't care/ I can play 'em like a Ken doll/ Won't wash my hair/ Then make 'em bounce like a basketball."
Lovato happily Tweeted about the new single's success by writing, "14 hours after releasing my new single.... YOU MADE IT #1 ON iTUNES IN 9 DIFFERENT COUNTRIES INCLUDING THE USA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHH!!!"
In another Tweet she wrote, "THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST DAYS OF MY LIFE!!!!!!!!!! ALL BECAUSE OF YOU GUYS!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!"
Lovato spoke about the new sound on her upcoming album in a teaser for "Heart Attack" released earlier this month.
"For a while, I could tell that when people would talk to me, they knew my story," Lovato said in the clip. "I think I've opened up more on this album. My life began to evolve and I started to grow."
"These are songs about the celebration of life and how rewarding it can be," she added. "This is what this album is about."
In 2010, Lovato, also known as the star of the Disney Channel show "Sonny With a Chance," dropped out of a concert series with the Jonas Brothers to seek medical treatment for what she called "emotional and physical issues" and spent about two months at a facility. She has since opened up about her personal struggles with drugs, alcohol, anorexia and bipolar disorder in print and television interviews.
The new untitled album, which is her fourth studio album, is a follow-up to her 2011 album "Unbroken." Since then, Lovato has raised her profile as an artist by appearing on the recent season of "The X Factor."
Her previous single off "Unbroken" called "Give Your Heart a Break" peaked at No. 16 on the Billboard Hot 100, hit No. 1 on the Billboard Pop Songs chart and sold 1.8 million downloads according to Billboard.com.
Lovato's new album does not have a release date or title yet. Listen to "Heart Attack" below.
