Marine in Perris skydiving accident identified

PERRIS, Calif.

The accident was reported at 3 p.m. Tuesday at 2000 Goetz Road near Perris Valley Airport. Caleb Medley from Burlington, Colo., was among a group of Marines taking part in a training exercise when his parachute apparently failed to deploy, and he plummeted into a storage yard.

The 26-year-old Marine was declared dead at the scene. His body was covered with an American flag as the scene was cordoned off.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
