Idina Menzel could be making her return to Broadway.
The 41-year-old performer is set to make her highly-anticipated return to the stage in the new musical, "If/Then," according to her official website.
"I have wanted to tell all of you about this for so long! I didn't want to jinx it," Menzel Tweeted on Feb. 28. "But now we have a really clear path. Can't wait to share this story with all of you. Coming back to NYC ! Yay!! @IfThenMusical"
The musical, which has been dubbed a "pre-Broadway engagement," will have an out-of-town tryout in Washington, DC's National Theatre from Nov. 5 to Dec. 8. Following that, the show will move to Broadway, with previews set to begin March 4, 2014 with an opening scheduled for March 27, 2014.
Menzel, known for her Tony award-winning role as the original Elphaba in Broadway's "Wicked," is set to star as Elizabeth in the romance musical. The show will follow her character who is intent on receiving a fresh start - new home, new friends, and hopes for a resurgent career. The musical is set against the landscape of modern day Manhattan and is centered on the concepts of choice and chance.
The musical comes from "Next to Normal" creators Tom Kitt, Brian Yorkey and Michael Greif.
Menzel has an extensive background in Broadway, having also starred as the original Maureen Johnson in Broadway's musical drama, "Rent," where she met her husband Taye Diggs. She also reprised her role in the 2005 film.
Menzel went on to appear in "Aida" in 2001, and last hit the Broadway stage for the hugely popular musical "Wicked" in 2005 after more than a year. She reprised her role in London's West End production a year later.
The actress also starred on "Glee" as Rachel Berry's long-lost mother and a coach of her glee club main competition in the show's first season. Her character, Shelby Corcoran, also had a season three arc in 2010 and 2011.
In "Frozen," a kingdom is trapped in eternal winter and a young dreamer named Anna (Bell) joins forces with Kristoff, a daring mountain man, in a journey to find Elsa the Snow Queen (Menzel) and to put an end to the icy spell. "Glee" star Jonathan Groff is also set to star in the animated film and will play the role of Kristoff.
The computer-animated feature will be directed by Chris Buckand is slated for release Nov. 13, 2013.
