Del. student gives back $1,800 after ATM mistake

March 4, 2013 12:00:00 AM PST
A University of Delaware student returned $1,800 that was mistakenly dispensed when he went to a campus ATM.

Senior finance major Devon Gluck of Ellicott City, Md., said he heard strange noises as he attempted to withdraw some money from an ATM on Feb. 1.

According to the Delaware News Journal, the man got more than he bargained for when he inserted his debit card into the machine; the ATM spat out 18 $100 bills.

Gluck says he followed his first instinct and took the money but later experienced a change of heart and decided to part ways with the cash. Four days later, Gluck returned the money to the bank branch after discussing the ordeal with his father.

Bank officials confirmed a student returned cash dispensed by the ATM. The money had been withdrawn from another student's account. His account has since been refunded.

Another student's account from which the money was mistakenly withdrawn has been refunded.

Gluck says a bank manager thanked him for returning the cash.
