OTRC: Taylor Swift fan mail found in Nashville trash bin (Video)

Taylor Swift wears a Grecian gown on the 2013 Grammy Awards red carpet on Feb. 10, 2013.

Hundreds of Taylor Swift's fan letters were recently discovered -- in a trash bin.

A local news station in Swift's hometown of Nashville, WKRN-TV, reported that a woman found hundreds of fan letters, many of which were covered in stickers and glitter, in a trash bin behind a school.

The station reports that the box of mail, which was largely unopened, was found by a woman who was disposing of her own items.

"I was like, 'That's weird,'" the woman, named Kylee Francescan, told the local station. "There were like hundreds of letters in there to Taylor Swift and I'm like, 'Oh my gosh!' I didn't know if they were stolen [or] discarded, so I threw them in a box. And I'm like, 'Somebody needs to let Taylor know.'"

The letters had been addressed to a P.O. Box that receives fan correspondence on behalf of Swift's management company, according to the outlet. Her spokesperson, Paula Erickson, explained that Swift does receive her fan mail, and that the matter is being investigated further.

"Taylor gets thousands of fan letters everyday and they are delivered to her management office," her spokesperson told the station. "After the letters are opened and read, they are recycled."

"The only explanation for any letters being unopened would be that a small batch of mail that was supposed to be delivered to Taylor was accidentally put with letters headed for the recycling center," she continued.

The 23-year-old singer, who often expresses her appreciation for her fans, is set to kick off her worldwide tour on Wednesday, March 13 in Omaha, Neb.

While the singer hasn't addressed the news on social media, she did recently Tweet her excitement over her new single, "22," and its video which is being released on March 13, Tweeting: "Hey so....... @GMA is going to be previewing the video for '22' tomorrow morning. 7 a.m. on @ABCNetwork :)."

On March 10, it was reported that the starlet visited the Children's Hospital & Medical Center in Omaha to see 10-year-old Lauren Hacker, according to the Associated Press.

Hacker, who is a fifth-grader at St. Margaret Mary School, is battling cancer. Her father took some time to post details about Swift's visit.

"Taylor Swift stopped by Lauren's room at the hospital around 1 pm in the afternoon," he wrote on the website. "She spent about an hour chatting with Lauren and Jonathan. Jonathan played a song on the ukulele for her. Lauren got in on the act and played a song on the electronic piano key board that she got for her birthday. Taylor was very impressed with both performances. I don't mean 'polite impressed.' I mean 'real impressed.'"
