Cedric the Entertainer has been named the host of a long-running, hit ABC show. Need a hint? He'll be asking for "final answers."
The 48-year-old stand-up comedian, who is known for being one of the "Original Kings of Comedy," is set to replace Meredith Vieira on ABC's long-running syndicated game show, "Who Wants to be a Millionaire."
Disney-ABC made the announcement on March 21, according to a report by Deadline.
"With his deep roots as a successful stand-up comedian and actor, Cedric will bring his fresh approach and unpredictable fun to the show," said President of Disney-ABC TV, Janice Marinelli.
The comedian is set to begin his hosting gig in the fall, which will mark the show's 12th season. He has appeared in a number of shows and films, including "The Steve Harvey Show," "Ice Age," "Cadillac Records" and the "Madagascar" film franchise.
The comedian will be replacing Vieira, who hosted the show for 11 years. The personality began hosting in 2002, after original host Regis Philbin ushered in the reality series in 1999.
On January 11, it was announced that Meredith Vieira was leaving the show.
The Associated Press quoted the 59-year-old as saying she was exiting because she wanted to pursue other ventures, including more work at NBC News. Vieira left her job as a co-host on the network's "Today" show in June 2011 after five years but remained a contributor and hosted the "White House Christmas: First Families Remember" special in December.
Vieira's spokesperson and ABC had no comment at the time of the report. The Associated Press also quoted an executive familiar with her plans as saying the TV host plans to launch her own YouTube video channel with "stories on people's lives."
Vieira has her own production company, Meredith Vieira Productions. The firm has made projects such as the 2012 documentary "The Woman Who Wasn't There," which is about a 9/11 survivor, and the 2011 film "Return," which stars Linda Cardellini as a soldier who struggles to maintain a normal life after returning from a tour of duty.
