Gucci Mane has been arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault with a weapon following a confrontation with a military man in an Atlanta nightclub.
The 33-year-old rapper, whose real name is Radric Davis, was booked at a jail in the city on Tuesday, March 26, police records show. James Lettley, from Fort Hood, Texas, told authorities that on March 15, Mane smashed a champagne bottle on his head at the Harlem Nights club. The rapper has not commented.
A warrant for his arrest was issued soon after the incident. Lettley had told local news station WSB that he had approached the rapper in the VIP section and asked if he could take a picture with him.
Lettley, who returned from deployment in Afghanistan in October, told the station that he asked a security guard, "I'm in the military. I wanted to get a picture with Gucci Mane, is it OK?" and that while the two spoke, Mane hit him in the head with the champagne bottle.
"And as I looked at him in the shock of why, one of his friends hit me in the side of my face," he said, adding that he later got 10 stitches at a hospital.
The rapper has served time in jail for violent incidents. In 2011, he spent three months behind bars for pushing a woman out of a moving vehicle. He had two jail stints in 2008 and late 2009 for violating his probation over past assault charges. In 2005, he was arrested on suspicion of murder following the deadly shooting of another rapper. The charges were dropped due to lack of evidence.
Mane is known for songs such as "Wasted," "Trap Back" and "Steady Mobbin" and also acts occasionally -- news of his arrest comes amid the recent release of the film "Spring Breakers," in which he has a small role.
