Elderly driver crashes into Glendale bakery; 1 dead, 4 hurt

GLENDALE, Calif.

The accident happened at Oledina's Cake Factory in the 1100 block of E. Broadway at 1:15 p.m. Police say the woman drove off the street, hit five cars in the parking lot and a shopping cart rack and crashed through the front of the building.

Her car pinned a 55-year-old man against the counter. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not yet been released.

One female pedestrian was rushed to a local hospital in unknown condition. Three others had minor injuries.

"It sounded kind of like an earthquake because it was moving so fast," said Jasmine Chobayan, who works next door. "It looked really bad to us. When I came in, I couldn't even get in because the firefighters were blocking everything."

The driver was said to be uninjured but was taken to the hospital for a rapid heartbeat. Police are interviewing the driver. It's unclear what caused the crash or if she will face any charges.
