Avril Lavigne debuted a new up-tempo and fun loving song called "Here's To Never Growing Up," on Monday, April 8. The 28-year-old singer recently talked about co-writing the song with fiance Chad Kroeger and a few other musicians.
Lavigne and 38-year-old Kroeger announced their engagement in August 2012. The two Canadian rockers had been dating quietly for six months before Kroeger popped the question with a 14-carat diamond ring. Lavigne and Kroeger first met while working on a song together for Lavigne's upcoming album.
"It's a pop rock tune. And it's just about being young, having fun, being present, living in the moment and that's what I love to do," Lavigne told Ryan Seacrest about the song on his KIIS-FM radio show on Tuesday, April 9. "This is actually one of the newer tunes. We just recorded it like a couple of months ago. And I wrote it with Chad and David Hodges and Martin Johnson from the band Boys Like Girls and J. Kash (Jacob Kasher)."
"So it was me and like four dudes and we're sitting around and I wanted to write something really fun and kind of like a summer song. And I feel like we nailed it," she added.
Lavigne, who said she was still in the studio making her record and has one more song left to record, also spoke about playing the song for record company executive L.A. Reid. Reid discovered Lavigne when she was 15 and was her longtime mentor.
"I played it for L.A. Reid and his first listen, he stood up and was in the studio and he was clapping and he's like, 'This is it' and I was so excited to be putting out a song on this record that I'm really excited about," Lavigne said.
Lavigne's last album, "Goodbye Lullaby," was released in March 2011. Her new album, which is currently untitled, will feature a duet with Kroeger and a few cover songs. "Here's To Never Growing Up" is currently available on iTunes.
