Evidence against Raven Abaroa will be used in murder trial

DURHAM

Raven Abaroa is charged in the April 2005 stabbing death of his wife Janet Abaroa. Raven told police he found his wife in their home on Ferrand Drive in Durham after returning from a soccer game.

Abaroa's trial is slated to start this month. As it draws near, his attorney wants to suppress evidence gathered at Abaroa's home, specifically the laptop computer he reported missing at the time of Janet's death.

On Friday during a pre-trial hearing, the defense argued that police did not get a search warrant for a computer disc loaded with files from a computer.

Janet Abaroa's sister told a judge that she found the disc while Abaroa was staying at her Virginia home after the murder. She said she decided to turn over a copy to police after discovering the files were dated around the time of her sister's death.
