Yosemite-area bus crash injures 16 - CHP

April 14, 2013 12:00:00 AM PDT
A tour bus crashed on a main highway south of Yosemite National Park, injuring 16 people, the California Highway Patrol said.

The bus went over an embankment about 40 miles south of the park at around 6 p.m. Saturday. The CHP's Merced dispatch office said the injured were transported to local hospitals for treatment.

Authorities said as the bus rolled over the embankment, several passengers were thrown to the driver's side of the bus. It eventually came to a stop after hitting a tree.

The bus was carrying 17 people, including the driver, who was the only one who was not hurt.

The CHP is now investigating what led to the crash.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
