Human skull found in Antelope Valley desert

April 14, 2013 12:00:00 AM PDT
Los Angeles sheriff's homicide detectives were investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a human skull in Quartz Hill on Sunday afternoon.

A local resident's dog made the discovery around 4 p.m. in a field in the 6200 block of West Avenue N in the community just north of Palmdale.

Investigators said it doesn't appear that the skull was out in the desert very long. They said they would return back to the scene Monday morning to canvas the area for more clues.

"The coroner's came out, but due to the lighting, they will come out tomorrow at 8:30 in the morning and scour the area," said Lt. Holly Francisco of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Investigators said they were reviewing missing persons cases for a possible connection.

No further information was available.
