Willie Nelson may be 80 years old, but he wants everyone to know that he can still bring the funny.
The singer-songwriter and activist, who turned the big 80 on Tuesday, April 30, took part in a skit for Conan O'Brien's late-night comedy show, "Conan." Nelson shows off his acting chops, kind of, and aims to nab a starring role in the adventure fastasy film, "The Hobbit."
"Hey, Peter Jackson. My name's Willie Nelson, and I want to audition for the role of Gandalf, the wizard, in that upcoming movie you got goin' called, 'The Hobbit,'" he says in the minute-long video, which shows the legendary performer sitting in front of an American flag with his signature long locks worn down.
As the video continues, the actor embodies the wizard character, who is actually played by Ian McKellen, by donning a large, floppy hat and carrying a tall, black staff. He goes on to recite an altered quote from the film, saying: "You shall not pass -- an unlit joint, man."
The Grammy-winning country star, who has been arrested in the past for possession of cannabis, goes on to display his love for recreational marijuana use, and is later joined by his son, Jacob Micah Nelson, who portrays hobbit Bilbo from the famed fantasy film (Watch below).
"So that's it, Peter. You can hire me then fire that Ian McKellen guy -- he's a good actor, but I'm Willie Nelson," he says at the end of the video.
Nelson continues to perform. He appeared onstage during Global Green USA's 10th annual Pre-Oscars Party at the Avalon club in Hollywood, California on Feb. 20, 2013. The country singer donned braids and a cowboy hat as he jammed out on his guitar (See photos).
