Police said the accident in the 200 block of W. Manchester Avenue happened when a wrong-way driver hit another car head on, creating a chain reaction crash. One of the vehicles burst into flames.
The unidentified male who died was an innocent victim, police said.
Among the injured was the suspected driver, who was in critical condition.
Investigators said the crash may have happened when a car fleeing from an earlier shooting ran a red light.
