Springs Fire burning in Camarillo at 95 percent containment

CAMARILLO, Calif.

The fire, which started on the morning of Thursday, May 2, had burned 24,251 acres by Wednesday. The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal-Fire) said full containment of the fire was expected on Thursday.

Ten outbuildings were destroyed by the fire, 6 more outbuildings were damaged and 6 commercial buildings were damaged.

All evacuations and road closures had been previously lifted.

Two fire crews, four engines and 247 firefighters remained at the fire Wednesday.

The concern now shifts to potential rock or debris slides due to rain running down the burned areas. K-rail and rock barriers on a seven-mile stretch along Pacific Coast Highway were set in place as a precaution to protect motorists and roadways.

The fire is believed to have been sparked by an undetermined roadside ignition of grass or debris along the 101 Freeway. The cause remains under investigation, but arson has been ruled out.
