OTRC: Joss Whedon: I'm not getting $100 million for 'Avengers 2'

Joss Whedon talks to OTRC.com about his and Marvel's 'The Avengers 2' movie and pilot 'Avengers of S.H.I.E.L.D.' at the 'Iron Man 3' premiere on April 24, 2013.

Joss Whedon says he will not receive $100 million to direct "The Avengers 2," following a recent report about his future earnings, adding that "that number is nuts" and that he is "not making Downey money."

Whedon helmed the first film, which made more than $1.5 billion worldwide since its May 2012 release and saw Robert Downey Jr. reprise his role as Iron Man for the third time. Deadline reported earlier this week that Whedon reportedly has a "really rich deal" worth $100 million that includes plans for "several pics," consulting work and an ABC pilot.

Whedon responded to the report on the fan site Whedonesque.

He said:

"I was going to let it slide, but I've got this sour taste in my mouth. (Mmmm, lemonade!). Some facts are not facts. I'm not going to go into the whole thing, but jeepers, I'm not getting $100 mil on Avengers 2. If I were, I would come on this site and laugh and laugh and laugh."

"I'm not making Downey money. I'm making A LOT, which is exciting. I'm not pretending to be a poor farmer, an Everyman, an ANYman. But that number is nuts."

Downey Jr, who also stars in the recently-released "Iron Man 3," has acknowledged that he was paid $50 million to play the superhero in "The Avengers." Deadline had reported that the actor is "set for another huge payday" if he reprises his role in "The Avengers 2." Downey Jr. has not commented.

Joss Whedon on "The Avengers 2": I'm gonna make it good

Whedon talked to OTRC.com about "The Avengers 2" and his ABC pilot, Marvel's "Avengers of S.H.I.E.L.D.," at the "Iron Man 3" premiere in Los Angeles on April 24. (Watch video above)

"The only weapon I have in my arsenal, honestly, is that I'm gonna make it good," he said. "The only thing that I could do is try to make a good movie and now I'm going to try to make a better one."

His ABC pilot stars Clark Gregg, who reprises his role as Agent Phil Coulson, a part he played in a variety of Marvel films, namely "The Avengers," the first two "Iron Man" movies and "Thor."

"It doesn't seem like a giant revelation that Clark Gregg is so good," Whedon told OTRC.com. "You just can't take your eyes off that guy. He's really fun. I feel like he's kind of a modern-day Colombo and that's my favorite underdog."

UPDATE: ABC has picked up Marvel's "Agents of Shield" to series and will air a sneak peek video during the season finale of "Once Upon A Time," which will be broadcast on Sunday, May 12 (Mother's Day) at 8 p.m. ET.
