75-acre brush fire erupts in Lytle Creek area

May 13, 2013 12:00:00 AM PDT
Fire crews made swift work of a brush fire in the Lytle Creek area Monday that erupted in hot and dry conditions.

Firefighters responded to the blaze along Interstate 15 just after 1:30 p.m. With temperatures in the triple digits in many Southland neighborhoods, authorities weren't taking any chances. Several air tankers, a helicopter, fire engines, bulldozers and ground crews were quickly dispatched.

At one point, the fire threatened some homes in the area, including a mobile home and a stable. Horses were seen being taken to a safe location.

The California Highway Patrol temporarily shut down Interstate 15 due to smoke, as well as the 210 Freeway. All lanes have since reopened.

Officials say the brush fire scorched 75 acres. The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
