Texas tornadoes claim 6 lives, destroy homes

GRANBURY, Texas

One tornado ripped through the lakefront town of Granbury around 8 p.m., leaving a devastating and deadly path of damage and debris.

The same storm spawned another tornado that tore through part of Cleburne, about 25 miles southeast of Granbury. Storm spotters described the twister to the National Weather Service as a mile wide with 80 mph winds.

Rescuers were combing through demolished subdivisions searching for anyone trapped, injured or dead in the rubble.. Fourteen people were reported missing.

The twisters were part of large system of severe thunderstorms that lit up the ski with lightening and pounded some areas with hail the size of grapefruit.
