'Kai the Hatchet Wielding Hitchhiker' arrested for murder

ELIZABETH, N.J.

Caleb "Kai" McGillvary is accused of killing Joseph Galfy Jr., an attorney in Clark, N.J. Galfy was found dead in his home Monday.

Authorities say Galfy was found two days after he met McGillvary in New York City. Police stopped by Galfy's home to check on his well-being and discovered him dead, wearing only his underwear and socks.

An autopsy determined that he died as a result of blunt force trauma.

McGillvary, who describes himself not as homeless but "home-free," was taken into custody Thursday at a Greyhound bus station on a murder warrant. He is being held on $3 million bail.

A post on McGillvary's Facebook page Tuesday claims he was raped by the man. He asks "what would you do" if you awoke in a stranger's house and found you'd been drugged and sexually assaulted. One commenter suggests hitting him with a hatchet - and McGillvary's final comment on the post says, "I like your idea."

McGillvary became Internet famous after intervening in an attack on a utility worker in Fresno on Feb. 1. He gave a rambling, profanity-laced 5-minute interview to a local television station about thwarting the unprovoked attack with his hatchet, and the interview went viral, with one version viewed more than 3.9 million times on YouTube. He later appeared on ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live!"
