This week at the movies, we boldly go to where no man has gone before, or possibly where we've already been. You'll be the judge. It's Captain Kirk versus one the Starfleet's own in "Star Trek Into Darkness."
When an unstoppable force of terror is discovered within the Starfleet, Captain Kirk (again played by Chris Pine) and the Enterprise lay it all on the line, warping straight into a war zone to capture Khan (played by Benedict Cumberbatch), who is bent on mass destruction. Returning are Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Simon Pegg and Karl Urban.
The Reel Deal: First, I just wish my name was Benedict Cumberbatch. Look, it's not terrible, but it's not great either.
Kirk is kirkier, Spock is spockier, but there's really nothing new. The plot is sort of a throwaway as a setup to the next set of movies and once again, the 3D is pointless. So I'm in, but just by a Klingon.
In limited release, Aaron Eckhart is an ex-CIA agent targeted in an international conspiracy in "Erased." And in "Black Rock," starring Kate Bosworth, Lake Bell, and Katie Aselton, the three women set out for a nostalgic camping trip only to become hunted in the wilderness.
