Kellie Pickler's husband, Kyle Jacobs, says he is proud of her for competing -- and winning "Dancing With The Stars," adding that she is a "little warrior."
Pickler, a 26-year-old former "American Idol" finalist and country singer, and partner Derek Hough were awarded the Mirror Ball Trophy on the season 16 finale of the ABC ballroom dancing competition series on Tuesday, May 21. They beat celebrity contestants Aly Raisman, an Olympic gymnast, Zendaya of the show "Shake It Up!" and NFL star Jacoby Jones.
"I know how hard she's been working and I know how much she's been focusing," Jacobs told OTRC.com. "When you get married [there's] the 'two shall become one' kind of thing? I think I was feeling what she was feeling. Oh, man, when she would have sleepless nights, I'd have sleepless nights."
"But I can't even tell you how proud I am of my wife," he said. "She won. She's never danced a day in her life and she just won 'Dancing With The Stars.' Crazy."
Pickler told Craig Ferguson on his CBS show "The Late, Late Show" in March that she was a cheerleader and also took a few dance classes in high school but had never ballroom danced.
During her time on "Dancing With The Stars," Pickler, a North Carolina native, showcased her fun-loving, self-proclaimed "crazy" personality -- which viewers embraced. She was often mocked over it when she competed on "American Idol" in 2006.
"I've said it before -- my wife is a five-foot-nothing, bleached-blonde, little warrior," Jacobs told OTRC.com. "You put a mountain in front of her and she will conquer it. She will. She is fearless. She's not your typical girl, that's for sure. She's a little crazy, if people haven't noticed."
