The unmanned Delta IV rocket lifted off from Cape Canaveral Friday night. The military will depend on the satellite for its mission in Afghanistan. It comes at a cost of about $342 million.
It's expected to take several months for the satellite to settle into the proper orbit, which follows the earth's rotation 22,000 miles above the equator.
