Breathe easy "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" fans, Detective Olivia Benson will be back for the show's 15th season.
Mariska Hargitay, who plays Detective Benson on the show, confirmed in a Tweet on Saturday, May 25, that she will return next season.
"Happy weekend. It's official. Season 15--I'LL BE BACK! xx m," she wrote.
"Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" was renewed for a 15th season in April. It was unclear at the time whether Hargitay would return and the season finale ended with a cliffhanger. Warning: spoilers ahead!
Detective Benson spent the bulk of the May 22 finale trying to hunt down a serial rapist, but gets told by her commanding officer to go home and rest for two days. When Detective Benson arrives at her apartment, the serial rapist is there and holds her a gun point.
Hargitay has been a part of the popular drama since the show began in 1999. The 49-year-old actress won a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series - Drama for the role in 2005 and she was nominated again in 2009, but lost to Anna Paquin of "True Blood."
She also won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for the show in 2006 and has been nominated several times in the category since 2004.
